What is Tromping?

"Tromping" is the word adopted to encompass a combination of interests - hiking, field herping, rock climbing, camping, kayaking, snorkeling, bushwacking, photography, ecology, bird watching, animal tracking, and exploration (to name a few). Tromping can consist of paddling a river, climbing a mountain, searching for animals, trekking through an uncut section of wilderness, and anything in between. Exactly what we do isn't what makes it "tromping", its why we're there.

Why do you do this ?

The driving force that makes us venture out is actually quite simple: we want to learn as much about the world as possible, hands on. We endeavor to walk through as many ecosystems as can be done in a lifetime, personally experience as much of the world's wildlife as possible, learn how organisms live, interact, and ultimately depend on one another - not just on a local level, but on a global one. We do this in an ultimate plan to promote conservation. Also - we do this because its fun!

How does annoying dangerous animals promote conservation?

Its doesn't. Not directly. The content creation of this website does nothing directly to conserve anything. It is however, a vehicle through which we not only learn about the world ourselves, but with photography, video, and (hopefully) entertainment teach others about the amazing things this in this world - things we hope to convince are worth saving.

Who does this stuff?

Its a long list of participants, but mostly two people. Myself (Bob) and Jay.

"I was born and spent my first 26 years in New Jersey. LIke most little boys I was always fascinated with frogs, turtles, and snakes - a fascination which never really faded as I got older. My father taught me a love of the outdoors through fishing, camping, boyscouts, and good-ol' frog-catching as a child. I thank him for this mostly because its what eventually led me back to my passions - ecology, photography, and adventure.

Over the years I've branched out to explore different areas of the eastern U.S. - MD, VA, WV, NC, FL, PA, NY, NJ - mainly because I want more than anything to experience new places and learn new things first-hand. "

"I now live on the Florida panhandle - having branched out and away from NJ in search of new experiences and hopefully better job opportunities. My higher education is still somewhat a work in progress, but I hope to eventually recieve a degree in ecology / herpetology and continue my learning and misadventures through conservation-based research. Until that point I intend to continue my 'personal education' by researching, photographing, and interacting with as many new wildlife species as possible - to hopefully gain a greater understanding of how these organisms work together as a whole. "
